Digital Raster Graph:
US Topo - The Next Generation of Topographic Maps - 2015
About the Data

US Topo is the next generation of digital topographic maps from the U.S. Geological Survey. Arranged in the traditional 7.5-minute quadrangle format, digital US Topo maps are designed to look and feel like the traditional paper topographic maps for which the USGS is so well known. At the same time, US Topo maps provide modern technical advantages that support wider and faster public distribution and enable basic, on-screen geographic analysis for all users.

Each US Topo map quadrangle is constructed in GeoPDF® format from key layers of geographic data found in The National Map:

  • orthoimagery
  • roads
  • geographic names
  • contours
  • hydrographic features

These data were collected from local, State, Federal, and other sources.

When were the Maps Created?
Florida DRGs were made between 1951 and 1993. For an exact year, consult the USGS DRG Survey Map Index. Quads are listed by quad name. Look in the column labeled "Date" for the year the map was made. NOTE: This PDF was created by USGS, not LABINS. To our knowledge, this information is not available in database format.
Determining the File Name
Use the Geographic Profile to find the the 250K quad sheet name.
Sample file name: FL_Hialeah_SW_20090929_OM_geo.pdf
FL = Florida
Hialeah = the quad name
20090929 = creation date

Note that some files in the Florida panhandle may appear in the Alabama folder.

Special Software Needed
  • GeoPDF® is a published extension (OGC 08-139r1) to the Adobe PDF file format, from TerraGo Technologies. It is used to present GIS and mapping data in a standard Adobe Systems PDF. Download a free viewer from TerraGo Technologies.
  • These files can be used in ArcMap.
